A wide variety of sporting opportunities
Sport is an integral part of Concordia’s extra-curricular program. It extends the Physical Education program through further opportunity for physical skill development and promotion of healthy activity levels. Involvement in sport helps broaden school friendship groups and offers opportunities to develop life skills such as independence, communication, leadership, team-building and taking personal responsibility in activities students enter by choice.
A variety of sports are available through our program at Concordia College.
Have-a-Go Programs are run especially for Junior Primary students. They are fun, skill based programs that enable students to learn how to play different sports without being competitive. Throughout the year the following sports are offered: Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Football (Auskick), Netball, Soccer, Tennis and T-Ball.
Primary school students can get involved in a range of summer and winter sports. Thanks to huge support from parent volunteers, we are able to offer a wide range of sports. Parent help plays a vital role in coaching, managing and organising these sports teams. These sports are offered subject to student interest and the number of parent helpers. Sport Teams offered include: Basketball, Cricket, Chess, Football, Netball, Soccer, Softball and Tennis.
In the Middle and Senior Schools, Girls Sport is mainly played within the IGSSA (Independent Girls Schools Sports Association) and Boys Sport within the SAAS (Sports Association for Adelaide Schools). Girls sports offered at Concordia include: Athletics, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Hockey, Netball, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis and Volleyball. Boys sports include: Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Football, Hockey, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis and Volleyball.
Our affiliation with SAPSASA (South Australian Primary Schools Sports Association), SSSSA (State Secondary Schools Sports Association) and some other independent associations provides opportunity for students to enter events outside of our normal program such as orienteering, table tennis, triathlon and golf.
As well as our affiliations with various school sporting associations, Concordia is a Proud Player Partner of the Adelaide United Football Club (AUFC) and has enjoyed a strong connection with the AUFC in recent years. In 2015, a soccer development squad was launched and since that time students have benefited from several opportunities to receive input from AUFC players and coaches.
Concordia is highly successful in a range of sports, entering teams in state-wide competitions in various sports such as basketball, netball and volleyball. A particular strength is our basketball program, which has resulted in a number of state school boys’ championship titles.
Sporting excellence is underpinned by an emphasis on participation. Students of all abilities are encouraged to participate in at least one of the many sports offered at Concordia. We take care to provide programs designed for both first time players and those more experienced.
