A long tradition of musical excellence

Concordia offers a wide range of bands, choirs, ensembles and orchestras to cater for different musical interests, year levels and abilities. There are around 30 music groups, beginning with the Year 2 Recorder Group, moving into the junior choirs, concert band, string and percussion ensembles, and culminating in the Concert Vocal Ensemble, String Ensembles, Orchestra, Big Bands, Funk Band and a wide variety of small ensembles.

There is a strong emphasis on performance both within and outside of the curriculum. Each year students at all year levels contribute to the diverse program of concerts and recitals, which includes: 'St John's Instrumental Concert', 'Concordia in Concert', 'Vocal Caberet' and the lunchtime concert series 'Harmony in the Chapel' and participate in events such as Generations in Jazz and the ABODA Music Festival. Students also have opportunities to perform alongside accomplished musicians, with recent examples including Katie Noonan, Kathie Renner and The Idea of North.

Instrumental Lessons

At Concordia we are fortunate to have around 40 highly qualified specialist music teachers who provide instrumental and voice lessons. Tuition is offered in orchestral instruments as well as piano, guitar, saxophone, and voice across both campuses. These lessons operate on a rotational basis throughout the school day. Students may also hire instruments from the College.

Scholarships

Music scholarships are available to highly skilled and motivated instrumentalists. View scholarship information for more details.

Special Interest Music

The Special Interest Music is a support and mentoring program that starts in Year 8 and is offered to music scholars and musically gifted students. Entry is by invitation or application. Special Interest Music lessons involve four modules per week and comprise Musicianship, Ensemble Performance and Music Arrangement.

School Musical

The annual Concordia musical, a tradition which can be traced back to 1961, provides theatrical and musical performance opportunities to a large number of students. Recent Concordia musicals have included Annie, Hairspray, The Sound of Music and Guys and Dolls.

Overseas Music Tours

Overseas music tours are offered every two years. In recent years, Concordia has undertaken successful tours to Europe, Malaysia, China and Hong Kong. In 2016, the school music tour was to Japan.
