On Sunday, 10 September, Concordia’s Big Band 1 performed an excellent program of Jazz music at The Gov as part of this year's JazzSA “Big Band Bash”.
This event is held each year to not only give school Big Bands a professional stage on which to perform, but it also raises funds to support the Mike Stewart JazzSA Memorial Fund.
It was a thoroughly entertaining afternoon of Big Band music, and Concordia College was extremely well represented by the talented students who make up this high quality ensemble.

The annual St John’s Music Showcase was held this year on Thursday 31 August. The students spent the day rehearsing prior to the concert which was held in the Concordia Chapel at 7pm.
More than 160 students were involved from Reception to Year 6 and they were very excited to showcase their work to such an appreciative audience.
The Showcase opened with the Concert Band directed by Mat Noble, Director of Music at the Concordia Campus. The band recently won a Gold Award at the ABODA Festival. The String Ensembles directed by Martin Butler and Karen Di Nardi were a highlight of the show and the students in the Year 2 Recorder Ensemble, directed by Jasmin Dinno, were so professional and entertaining. The Years 3/4 and 5/6 Choirs, Vocal Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble led by Julie Lugg delighted the audience with their repertoire and enthusiasm.
What a pleasure it is to work with such talented young people who are learning the lifelong skills of cooperation, reliability, team work, commitment and hard work by belonging to one of these groups. When they perform for others they also experience the pleasure and joy that music brings in sharing their talents with others. Thank you to all of the St John’s and Concordia Campus staff, as well as our St John’s Campus students who worked together to make such a wonderful night possible.

Last Friday afternoon, the Year 9 Special Interest Music class provided music for the annual memorial service held in the DisabilitySA Chapel. This is a moving service which commemorates the lives of those who have lived in the care of the Julia Farr Centre. This year, the theme for the service was LOVE, and the Year 9s played songs which followed this theme. Through their service as musicians, the students provided a lovely musical element to what was a delightful dedication to lost loved ones.
