Why Concordia College
Excellent academic outcomes, facilities and a supportive learning environment
Concordia College is a co-educational school with around 1300 students from Early Learning Centre (ELC) to Year 12. Founded in 1890, Concordia is located in Highgate, just 5km (10 minutes) from Adelaide city centre and 20 minutes from Adelaide International Airport.
Based on the Christian ethos, Concordia has a strong reputation as a school which cares for its students.
As an IB school, we believe in the value of an international education and the importance of developing a global mindset. We have high expectations of our students and offer a challenging and engaging program of learning. Concordia’s Senior School academic program builds on the International Baccalaureate Programme offered in the Middle School. Students choose from a broad range of subjects as part of a well-balanced curriculum, which enables them to gain the IB Diploma or the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) on completion of Year 12.
Many of our students achieve excellent ATAR scores preparing them for entry into top universities both in Australia and overseas. The top international student in 2016 received an ATAR of 99.1 – the second highest result in the school.
“At Concordia College, we believe that an outstanding education is about more than just exceptional results. It is about helping students to develop the skills and character that will give them the best possible start in life.”
Support for International Students
Currently, we have around 35 international students, providing excellent opportunities for language learning and cultural assimilation.
Concordia has an established homestay program. Most of these homes are within easy reach of the College and provide a welcoming and supportive environment.
English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is provided as part of the Year 11 and 12 curriculum in both the IB Diploma and the SACE. There is also EAL support for students who enrol in the July Year 10 entry program, giving them six months to prepare for the senior years programs in Years 11 and 12. Our International Student Coordinator is responsible for the wellbeing and integration of international students. The Principal (or delegate) visits China and Hong Kong each year to meet with parents of current and prospective students.
