Towards the end of Term 3 the Year 1s celebrated reaching our Reading Stamina Challenge with a Pyjama Day. Teddies and torches were brought into school, cubby houses were built in the classroom and morning reading happened in these spaces. Cookies and milk were enjoyed by all for our morning recess.

This term the teachers at the St John’s Campus have begun a process of reviewing the curriculum area of Mathematics as part of our school’s curriculum review cycle. A team of teachers have formed a group to lead the teaching staff through this process.
The review will be planned, purposeful and progressive with the aim to create positive improvements to this key learning area. As the world and its demands on us are constantly changing, it is imperative that as an educational institution we spend time and effort in ensuring that what we are teaching and how we are teaching is continuing to achieve this goal.
The aim of the Maths review is to enhance student learning, engagement, experience and outcomes through the reflection on our beliefs and knowledge about how students best learn in this area.
The power of this review will be an increase not only in student outcomes but also teacher knowledge and understanding in providing relevant, challenging and significant learning opportunities that will develop numerate students.
Time will be spent inquiring into current research, observing effective practice and embracing pedagogical change in order to bring about positive learning outcomes for the students.
Last Friday night St John’s Campus students enjoyed the annual disco and, in the words of the Year 6 students, ‘busted some moves on the dance floor’. The theme for the Junior Primary Disco was ‘Pyjamas’ whilst the Upper Primary Disco theme was ‘famous people’, even Kath and Kim, Donald Trump and The Beatles made an appearance. It was great to see students dancing in unison as they enjoyed the Chicken Dance, Nutbush, Macarena and YMCA.
