Year 7 SIM Gamelan Orchestra Program

This term, the Year 7 Special Interest Music class has been engaged in rehearsing traditional Indonesian music on the Javanese made school Gamelan. They have made quick progress, and it’s hoped they will have an opportunity to show the school what they’ve been working on in an assembly before the end of this term. Well done to all involved.

Living Choice Instrumental Music Endowment

Living Choice is a highly successful nationwide company that has community mindedness, as well as community building, at the core of its business philosophy.

Its most recently completed project is the Living Choice Village, Fullarton, built on the northern boundary of Concordia College. Since Living Choice’s directors first conceived the idea of building the village in Fisher Street, they and their team have sought to establish a cohesive working partnership with Concordia College. This alliance has flourished, and is set to continue to develop over future years.

In alignment with their own business philosophy, Living Choice kindly offered to create an annual award for a Concordia College Music student. Each year, this award will be presented to a Music student who consistently demonstrates community-centred characteristics i.e. practices directed towards creation or enhancement of community.

The scholarship provides funds each year up to the value of $1000 to be used to finance the recipient's instrumental tuition and this year it was awarded to Thomas 12CFI.

Congratulations, Thomas.

Big Band 1 Performs at The Gov in 2018 Big Band Bash

On Sunday, 3 June, under the direction of Adam Page, Big Band 1 again shone as part of the Mike Stewart inspired Big Band Bash at The Gov. This was a wonderful day of music played by school Big Bands from across Adelaide in a festival type atmosphere. Concordia’s band played two outstanding pieces of music and it was a pleasure to watch the joy our students experienced during this performance, but equally, the joy they brought to the audience.

Congratulations to Big Band 1 and to Adam for continuing to raise the standard of your performances, and for being a part of perpetuating the wonderful legacy left to us by the inspirational teacher, band director and musician, Mike Stewart.
