Chairman's Award for Sailing Success
Twenty four teams made up of over 200 students participated in an intense weekend of competition at this year’s Musto SA Schools Team Sailing State Championships in April, with two Concordia teams putting in a fantastic effort and showing great sportsmanship throughout.
The competition was fast-paced with 180 races in total across the weekend, each race lasting 6-10 minutes. Strategy, tactics, planning, communication and team work are all pivotal skills in team sailing, and our students performed well this year, with both teams finishing in the top ten overall. Our girls team finished in 7th place overall and 1st in their division, earning them a place in the finals before narrowly missing out on top spot and finishing as runner-up in the three-race finals series. After impressing the umpires with their achievements over the course of the competition, the girls’ team was presented with the Chairman’s Award, as well as an invitation to compete at the National Championships in Perth.
Now in its fourth year, team sailing is a relatively new offering at Concordia, but with continual improvement each year to date, the future looks bright for this exciting sport.
