The 2017 school year began with much excitement and anticipation as many students reconnected after a long summer holiday break. There were plenty of good photo opportunities at the St John’s Campus in particular, with students in the ELC and Reception embarking on their very first day at school.
During the St John’s Campus opening Chapel service on Tuesday 31 January, Michael Paech welcomed students and their parents and wished everyone well for a safe and productive year. On Wednesday 1 February at the Concordia Campus Commencement Service, the 2017 Student Leaders and House sports leaders as well as a total of 23 new or returning staff were inducted into their roles at the College.
Awards for the top SACE student in 2016, Amber, and the top IB student, Abby, were presented by Lester Saegenschnitter and the Chair of the College Board, Sylvia Andersons. Abby was also officially announced as Dux of Concordia College with the highest possible ATAR of 99.95.
In her speech, Abby shared the following advice with students;
Don't fall into the trap of thinking that Year 12, or a result, defines you. The beautiful thing about being as self-aware as we are, is that we can redefine ourselves at any moment. One thing that helped me was imagining myself in ten years’ time. Not so much where I was in life, but what qualities I wanted to possess. Once I had figured out what kind of person I wanted to be in ten years, I began to try and be that person now. So my advice would be: figure out what kind of person you want to be, and let Year 12, and the rest of your life as you continually grow, reflect that.
