Annual Musical a Hit with Audiences
The annual Concordia musical was a hit with audiences again this year as the talented cast, crew and pit band ‘welcomed guests to the 60s’ in three public performances of ‘Hairspray’ on 8 and 9 April.
From the opening number to the closing curtain the comic timing, energy, vocal abilities and musicianship of Concordia’s students were on display. The tight 15-piece pit band kept the beat moving, providing a solid platform to showcase the incredible vocal performances of the leads who were beautifully backed by chorus members throughout the show’s many feel-good, toe-tapping tunes. The choreography too was impressive, energetic and well executed, bringing an amazing sense of life and vitality to the production.
As the show drew to a close, the final song “You Can’t Stop the Beat” had audiences clapping along in excitement, with the applause continuing until after the final curtain had closed. Though the musical is now over for another year, the memory of these wonderful shows lives on in the hearts and minds of all involved as we look forward with anticipation to Concordia’s 2017 musical production!
