Relay for Life
Seven student ‘runners’ and 11 media crew members stepped out in support of the Cancer Council’s Relay for Life event in May, an event which recognises and celebrates those in our communities who have overcome cancer or are currently undergoing treatment.
The relay is a 19-hour, overnight event at Bonython Park which saw the students involved in walking around the arena completing a total of 203 laps as a way of raising funds towards finding a cure for cancer. Themed laps and a fantastic sense of teamwork added to the fun of the event which was covered by a volunteer media crew from Concordia who provided photography, video footage and graphics for display on a huge 7m screen.
The relay was a fantastic opportunity to serve the community while also providing valuable real-world production experience for some of our Media students. Overall, $177,000 was raised towards the Cancer Council’s important work, and Concordia was proud to have again had the opportunity to play a role in such a wonderful community event.
