Term 2, Week 72025

Developing Young Entrepreneurs, Engineering with LEGO, Music Programs and more

12 June 2025

Dear St John's Campus Families

We know as parents and educators that one of the most amazing qualities about young children is their natural curiosity! There is nothing more exciting or heart-warming than witnessing a young child find a new interest, learn something for the first time or be deeply engaged in their passions!

During Term 2, our St John's Campus staff have been hard at work, providing our children with new and diverse learning opportunities to facilitate just this… engaging students in their interests and passions, and exposing them to new experiences!

Year 5 Small Business

Our Year 5 students are currently engaging in a Unit of Inquiry focused on planning and running a small business stall, designed to make profit for charity. After learning about different business models from industry experts and companies, students in groups had to ‘pitch’ their own business model to a panel of experts, Shark Tank style! Next week, these students will run their stalls, trying to make a profit from their customers… our other students!

Young Engineers LEGO Club

Over 30 Year 1 to 6 students have been engaging in weekly afterschool Lego Engineering challenges this term. This learning experience, facilitated by Young Engineers Australia, is igniting, and building upon, their passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as well as developing their problem solving, critical thinking and collaboration skills. This program will continue in Term 3.

Sports Program

This year has seen the highest level of student participation in our winter sports program in the campus’s history! Over three in four of our students are now involved in our sports program, which has also seen growth in sports such as AFL, netball and soccer. The resilience, confidence and teamwork skills learnt through sport are invaluable, as is the pride that students are developing in representing Concordia!

Year 2 Strings and Year 4 Band Program

To witness every Year 2 and Year 4 student this term learning an instrument in small groups from an instrumental professional has been a delight! We have seen the passion for music be ignited in many of these students, which is wonderful knowing the many benefits this creates for young people. We can’t wait to witness their concert performances at the end of this term!

Lunchtime Clubs

During Term 2, our Year 6 Student Leaders and SRC, have been working hard to design new ‘lunch club activities’ for children during our break times. We know that supporting children to engage in their passions during break and play times is essential for their wellbeing, social connections and emotional regulation. Over the coming weeks, our Year 5 and 6 students, will start leading these lunch clubs for other students based on their choices! This is a wonderful example of student voice and leadership making a difference in our community.
