Term 3, Week 32025

A Learning Journey Full of Purpose

6 Aug 2025

Dear St Peters Campus Families

As we settle into Term 3, it’s been a joy to see students return with such enthusiasm—reconnecting with their friends and diving into learning with fresh energy. At St Peters Campus, our staff and students continue to focus on meaningful learning experiences that are not only engaging but shape the kind of people our young learners are becoming.

One of our key educational priorities this year has been the development of our EdVenture program—a unique learning framework that connects students to real-world, purpose-driven experiences. EdVenture combines service and sustainability, connecting learners to themselves, their community and the wider world.

Across year levels, students are exploring what it means to be active citizens who care for the environment and those around them. From Year 2/3 students learning about water, to ELC designing ways to reduce waste at school, our learners are asking big questions and developing small-but-powerful actions. These experiences reflect a growing body of research that supports environmental and experiential learning as crucial to nurturing informed, empathetic and proactive global citizens.

As educator and inquiry-based learning expert Kath Murdoch highlights, environmental education invites us to "re-kindle and re-imagine" how we connect children with the natural world in meaningful, personal ways (Murdoch, 2021). Through EdVenture, we are striving to cultivate that same sense of wonder, responsibility, and agency.

We are also grounding our learning design in the principles of experiential learning. Based on David Kolb’s theory, we know that deep understanding is built when students are actively involved in the learning process—reflecting, experimenting and applying knowledge in real-world contexts. This aligns perfectly with our goal to provide hands-on, learner-centred experiences that are rich in relevance and engagement (Growth Engineering, Kolb’s Experiential Learning Theory, 2024).

In addition to curriculum-based EdVentures, we’ve launched Special Interest EdVentures every second Wednesday at 12:50pm. This new initiative gives students the opportunity to choose an elective that builds on their strengths and interests in fun, hands-on ways. On offer this term are:

  • Master Chef Junior with Miss Wilson
  • SproutEd with Mrs J
  • LEGO Masters with Ms Watkins
  • School News with Ms Barratt
  • LEGO Animation with Mr Webster
  • Petals and Produce with Ms Benger
  • Mud Kitchen with Ms Livingston

These Special Interest EdVentures are designed to foster creativity, independence and a love of learning. Morning Break Clubs in Semester 2 will also complement these offerings.

Our staff continue to grow in their professional knowledge and practice. On the Term 3 Show Days, staff will take part in highly practical and research-informed training in the Science of Reading, led by Bill Hansberry and the team from Playberry Laser. These sessions will focus on evidence-based strategies to support every child’s reading journey—especially those who find decoding and fluency more challenging. The training will deepen our focus on phonics, reading comprehension and classroom support for diverse learners.

Looking ahead, students will continue to experience learning that is both foundational and adventurous. Whether through our expansive musical offerings, our structured Heggerty phonemic awareness program or student-led service projects in the community, we want every learner to feel challenged, connected and empowered. These pillars continue to guide our vision for learning and inspire us to keep evolving.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we walk alongside your children on this journey. We look forward to officially launching our EdVenture Curriculum Framework in Term 4 and celebrating this exciting step with our whole community.

Kind regards
