Welcome to Country Ceremony with Uncle Tamaru Smith

Be Brave. Make Change is the call for National Reconciliation Week 2022.

With a rich history of Aboriginal students studying at Concordia College, and in respect of the land on which our school resides, local Kaurna Elder Uncle Tamaru Smith was invited to provide a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony at sunrise. Mr Paul Weinert, Head of College, joined Uncle Tamaru in the Welcome to Country, speaking in both English and Kaurna language as a sign of respect and reconciliation. The ceremonies were filmed and will be produced into a short video to be used at the beginning of future College events.

Unfortunately, current COVID-19 guidelines restricted a ‘whole of school’ attendance and it is proposed that these ceremonies, when permissible, will be repeated later in the year for all to experience.
