Pedal Prix — Adelaide Six-Hour Race

On Sunday 18 June the Concordia Pedal Prix squad competed in the 6-Hour Adelaide race at Victoria Park. The College had six teams - five from the Middle and Senior School and one Primary School team from our St Peters Campus at Blackwood - competing against 149 school teams from around Australia. The weather provided ideal race conditions, drying out the track quickly and allowing teams to reach maximum speeds around the 1.35km circuit.

The day was full of spills and crashes, but all our teams were able to stay out of any major trouble. Unfortunately, we did experience quite a few flat tyres throughout the race that set back some of our teams, including our St Peters Campus trike. That said, the highlight of the day was seeing the team work together and encourage each other. Parents, students and other schools made a big effort to support one another whilst in friendly competition, and the St Peters Campus students were appreciative of fantastic assistance from their Middle and Senior School peers who helped them get back on the track promptly after their flat tyre. Two red flags also brought the race to a stop due to the official timing not working, meaning results are still pending from the day. All teams competed and represented the College well, while showing good improvement in overall lap times from training.

Highlights from the day included team Veloci starting on the front row of the grid and both team Veloci and team Raptor being in the top 10 of their respective categories throughout the day. With this event marking the first race for some of our St Peters Campus students, it was also very pleasing to see the Blue Saint trike in 12th place out of 30 trikes prior to the flat tyre - a wonderful effort!

A huge thanks to all the students, parents and staff who assisted in a range of roles in the lead up and during the race. We now look forward to competing in round 4 at Tailem Bend on Saturday 5 August.
