1. Where were you before this and what persuaded you to join Concordia College?
Before working at Concordia, I was on a 15-month working holiday in Canada and USA. While in North America, I worked for the Child and Youth Department at the YMCA and did relief teaching at a local school in British Columbia. I also enjoyed a heavy dose of sightseeing and adventure. Prior to that I was teaching in my hometown of Kingston SE, where I gained experience in teaching across all year levels from Reception to Year 12 and a variety of subject areas. I chose to join Concordia College because I was seeking a new challenge and eager to embrace city life after so many years in rural South Australia.
2. Three words to describe you.
Easy-going, personable, traveller.
3. What is your motivation or inspiration in your role?
I absolutely love teaching cooking because I think it is an important life skill that anyone would benefit from. It is such a joy to see students grow in confidence in the kitchen and take such pride in their recipe creations. Cooking offers a multitude of benefits beyond just preparing food such as creativity, cultural exploration, stress-relief and nutrition. It is because of these reasons that I love to teach Food Design and introduce students to the joy of cooking.
4. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
I would love to speak and understand every language and dialect in the world. One of my hobbies is travelling and so I think this superpower would be helpful. In general, though, it would be great to never have a language barrier and always be able to communicate with others.
5. Who would you invite to a dinner party of six guests and why? Alternatively, tell us something you might like to share that we could not possibly know?
My guests would be Morgan Freeman, Sandra Bullock, Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. I am a movie buff and believe these actors would have some amazing stories about their careers in the film industry. This dinner party would be most entertaining!
