At St Peters Campus, our Buddy Program is more than just a friendship initiative—it’s a powerful learning experience. Recently, our Year 5/6 students became reading mentors, working alongside their Year 1 buddies to explore nonfiction texts as part of a Unit of Inquiry on living things and life cycles.
Focusing on reading strategies such as identifying text features, asking questions and extracting key information, the big buddies provided meaningful, one-on-one support.
This powerful learning partnership benefits both age groups—older students build leadership, empathy and communication skills, while younger students gain confidence and personalised support. It’s a wonderful example of learning through connection, collaboration and care at Concordia.
