A group of 74 students and eight staff attended the 2025 Generations in Jazz at Mount Gambier from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 May. Big Band 1, Big Band 2, Jazz Combo and our three Jazz Vocal Ensembles—Mattson, McKenzie and Prelude—competed in their relative sections. All students rose to the occasion and performed exceptionally well.
It was a busy weekend which included evening concerts featuring Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, the competition all day Saturday and workshops on Sunday morning with Big Phat Band members and guest vocalists before the announcement of results and final concert.
Standout results for our groups this year were:
- First Big Band 1, directed by Tom Voss (Division 2 Big Band)
- Best Saxophone Section (Division 2) - Peter 12TMCC, Lani 10DLYN, Sean 10DLYN, Lincoln 12SSCH and Tom (8LTHO)
- First for Jazz Combo led by Peter 12TMCC
- Three students were also selected for Super Band 2from Big Band 1 and performed at the final concert:
- Marco 11AMOF - Trumpet 1
- Peter 12TMCC - Alto Saxophone 1
- Moses 9MSMA - Drum Kit.
Well done to all of our students and staff involved in what was an amazing weekend of music!
