Maths and Mother’s Day in Year 1 at St Peters Campus

Hands-on learning in Year 1 at St Peters Campus
22 May 2025

Year 1 students at St Peters Campus are engaging in dynamic, hands-on Maths activities that make learning fun and interactive! They are exploring key mathematical concepts such as part-part-whole, problem solving, and strategies like counting on, doubles and adding 10.

One example of this approach is using dominoes to quickly recognise groups and apply strategies like counting on or doubles. These activities not only challenge students but also encourage discussions about numbers, helping them build strong foundational skills.

We made our Mother's Day activity meaningful to our learning as well as a wonderful thought! Giving the gift of a plant not only ties into our inquiry topic on living things but also allowed students to explore the different parts of plants as they transferred them into beautifully decorated pots. Adding our fun love notes made the gifts even more special and personal for our mothers.
