On Saturday 17 May, five Concordia Pedal Prix teams competed in the six-hour race at Tailem Bend Raceway. Competing against 165 teams from around Australia, riders reached speeds of more than 50km/h and faced challenging wet conditions throughout the race. For many of our Year 7 riders, this was their first experience of racing, creating a great sense of excitement and atmosphere in our team area.
All teams competed well, riding consistent lap times and avoiding the slips and turns of the fast corners in wet conditions. Teams worked together to assist with changeover and communicate to riders out on the track, with great improvements seen in the duration of riding sessions. With clean racing, valuable experience was gained from the race day in preparation for future races.
The highlight for the day was our senior team, Costa, chasing down a podium third position in the final 90 minutes of the race. A rollover on the back corner in the final hour put the team at risk of losing their top three position; however, in a highly competitive category these senior students performed consistently, chasing down 10 positions across the day and holding off a close fourth position. This is a remarkable result for our school, producing our best race result at this track ever.
Thank you to all the staff and parents for their support of the program across many areas. We look forward to racing in Adelaide on Sunday 15 June 15 in the next six-hour event.
