STEM Wind Tunnel Back in Action

22 May 2025

We’re excited to announce that Concordia’s STEM wind tunnel is back in action! After some much-needed repairs, the tunnel is once again up and running—thanks to the generous efforts of volunteer Brian Pagenstecher. Brian, who was one of the original builders of the tunnel alongside Shaun Clamp, kindly offered his time and expertise to restore this valuable piece of STEM equipment.

Our Year 10 STEM students are now making use of the wind tunnel in their latest project. Each student is designing and testing three balsa wood glider prototypes, with the goal of achieving the longest possible flight time of their final laser-cut design. The wind tunnel is helping them measure the lift each design produces, providing real-world data to guide improvements and boost performance.

It’s inspiring to see past and present efforts come together—Brian and Shaun’s original work is now supporting a new generation of students exploring the science of flight.

We’re incredibly grateful to Brian for his support and look forward to seeing where our students’ gliders will take them—literally and figuratively!
