On Tuesday of Week 4, the Year 11 students took part in the annual Steps to Success Day. The program began with a road accident prevention presentation from the Metropolitan Fire Service. The presentation was a powerful reminder of the responsibility of all road users to keep themselves and others safe. With many of the students currently on their L plates or having recently obtained their P plates, the presentation was very relevant to this particular age group.
The students then attended two sessions on setting oneself up for success, and organisation and time management. These sessions were led by Sam Ghamrawi, Founder and Speaker of Sekseed Projects. They were engaging and practical, providing the students with strategies that can be implemented immediately.
The students were also encouraged to think about what 'success' means to them. Through practical examples, students reflected on the fact that being successful is not determined only by money and prestige; it is also determined by happiness, health, social connections and leading a balanced lifestyle.
To complete the day, students took part in two elective activities—one focused on relaxation and one focused on leisure and social connections. The beautiful weather provided perfect conditions for outdoor electives such as walking, netball and basketball, whilst other students enjoyed indoor pursuits including pilates, music, candle decorating, reading, mindful colouring, games, cooking, weights training and badminton.
Thank you to all of the staff whose efforts made the day possible. We hope that all Year 11 students have gained new ideas that will help them to succeed in their future studies and beyond.
