In our current Unit of Inquiry, the students have been exploring how businesses are created and how they respond to the changing needs and wants of a community. As part of this unit, our Year 5 students recently took part in a wonderful real-world learning experience, a Living Library with small business owners from our local community. To deepen their understanding, students had the chance to “check out” a living book, by listening to and asking questions of real business owners who shared their journeys, challenges and motivations.
We were lucky enough to welcome a diverse group of guests, including a crochet maker, a fitness studio owner, a cake maker, a restaurant owner, a lawyer, and a plumber. Each offered unique insights into what it takes to run a business, adapt to customer needs and solve problems creatively.
A huge thank you to our visiting business owners for inspiring our Year 5 learners and helping bring the world of business to life!
