Year 9 Geography Excursion to Cleland National Park

22 May 2025

The Year 9 cohort recently went to Cleland National Park. We took the buses up the winding roads of the Adelaide Hills into the park. It was a cold day with the rain clouds drizzling on us the whole time we were present, but our anticipation of seeing kangaroos and koalas did not falter. We went to learn about biomes and how the climate affects both the flora and fauna.

We got to draw up BOLTSS (Border, Orientation, Legend, Title, Scale, and Source) maps of the aviary and dingo enclosures. This was both a fun and difficult activity as by this time, the rain was really pouring, making the papers quite wet. Nevertheless, it was still an enjoyable and educational experience. While gazing upon the kangaroos we wrote how the human intervention has had a negative and positive impact on the fauna and flora. All in all, the excursion was a riveting experience with many interesting aspects. Alas the wombat escaped our sights as it hid away from the rainy weather.

Thank you to the teachers and incredible workers at Cleland National Park for making the trip possible.
