St Peters Campus Blackwood Library Excursion

5 June 2025

In Week 4, our Reception and Year 1 students set off on a special walking excursion to the Blackwood Library (Tiwu Kumangka). The excursion was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with stories, their community and the world around them.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed into the children’s area of the library, where we enjoyed a lively storytime session. One of the staff, Sallie, captivated the children with two beautiful stories. Following this, the students explored the children’s library collection with great excitement. They had the opportunity to browse the shelves, chat about their favourite books, and each borrowed a special book to take home and share with their families.

The walk itself became an important part of our learning experience. The children showed great commitment and enthusiasm, walking safely to and from the library. On our return journey, the walk was transformed into a community scavenger hunt! With their scavenger bags in hand, students kept an eye out for a range of interesting items and landmarks, collecting a treat as they reached each location.

This rich and engaging excursion supported our students’ growing independence, sense of belonging and love of stories. We are so proud of the way our young learners embraced the experience with enthusiasm, curiosity, joy and respect.
