Hot on the heels of our super successful Adelaide Fringe season of our original 2024 production, ‘Metropolis Now', the Stage 2 Drama class is back with yet another original offering, ‘The Thing About Love.’ This brand new one-act romantic comedy follows a group of friends and the twists and turns on their path to finding true love while attending each other's weddings—and a birthday party. This feel-good comedy, filled with relatable characters and all-too-familiar situations, celebrates love in all its wonderful, awkward, heartbreaking, surprising, ridiculous, painful, illogical, terrifying and beautiful glory.

As a Drama teacher, you hope to inspire young people to discover their identity as artists while nurturing their creativity, not just as students of Drama, but as thriving authentic theatre makers. ‘The Thing About Love’ is the result of this group of students doing just that. Their desire to devise new work reflecting themes and characters important to them has been inspiring to me, not just as their teacher, but also as a playwright. Following discussions about the kinds of stories they wanted to tell, I was prompted to lead them through a process of exploring their perspectives on love and relationships through Drama and storytelling while honouring their passion for making theatre that pushes the boundaries of ‘just another school play.’
