On Friday of Week 5, our St John’s Campus Year 3 students were blessed with an abundance of parent volunteers and perfect weather for exploring the Cleland Wildlife Park. This excursion connected with our current 'How We Organise Ourselves' Central Idea ‘Humans create systems to classify and understand the world.’
From prior learning about using a dichotomous key to classify different types of animals, students were able to apply their classroom learning to real-life examples of reptiles, marsupials, mammals, insects and birds in the Wildlife Park. We also got to meet some of the animals (a bandicoot, lizard and turtle), observing up close the features and adaptations animals have. Students were able to feed the kangaroos, spot the echidnas and watch the sleepy koalas. Thank you to all who supported this valuable learning experience.
