Each year, Palace Nova cinemas host a German Film Festival. In conjunction with the Festival, screenings of selected films are held for school students. On Friday of Week 7, the Year 10 and 11 German students attended a screening of Sieger Sein (“Winners”), an entertaining and gripping film that tells the story of a young Kurdish refugee from Syria, who ultimately gains acceptance in her new school in Berlin through her soccer prowess. As well as being highly enjoyable, the film provided the students with insights into contemporary German youth culture and issues faced by migrants, as well as an opportunity to develop their aural language skills and use their German outside of the classroom environment.
