Meet Our Awesome School Chickens!
We’re thrilled to introduce our newest (and fluffiest) members of the St Peters Campus community—our four school chickens! Thanks to the incredible generosity of Sandersons (Grain. Fodder, Pets, Garden, Rural, Supplies), a wonderful local family-run business, our chickens have everything they need to thrive. From feed to bedding, Sandersons has supported us every step of the way—we highly recommend them for all your animal and garden needs!
Our chickens—Winnie (Silver Laced Wyandotte), Bailey (Buff Sussex) and Coco (Hyline)—are happily settled in and laying eggs! Students have jumped right into caring for them—topping up food and water, checking nesting boxes, learning how to look after them and, of course, collecting eggs. One of our Hyline hens is still waiting for her name... and the whole school is helping decide!
This fun and engaging project links beautifully to Science (animal needs and life cycles), Humanities and Social Sciences (sustainability and care), and Health (nutrition and wellbeing). It’s all part of our extraordinary commitment to hands-on, real-world learning.
We can’t wait to start cooking with our fresh eggs—watch this space!
