On Tuesday of Week 6, Year 11 and Year 12 Legal Studies students attended an interactive “Just Lawful” presentation at the University of South Australia. Co-hosted by Daniel Panozzo and The Advertiser’s chief court reporter Sean Fewster, the presentation took the audience through the different stages of a criminal case, from the incident itself to the handing down of the sentence. At each point, students were encouraged to think critically and examine their own biases and assumptions. The evening concluded with all in the audience pondering the question of whether we have a justice system, or simply a legal system. The event was an excellent opportunity for the students to develop their critical thinking skills and gain insight into the criminal law system, as well as the challenges faced by jury members.
