In Week 8, the Year 11 Legal Studies students visited the Supreme Court of South Australia and the Adelaide Gaol. These visits complemented class learning under the theme of 'justice and society'.
At the Court, we were addressed by the Honourable Justice McIntyre of the Supreme Court and three Judges Associates. We were given an insider's perspective of the Court system and working within the system. We were able appreciate the role that the Court takes in society. Practical life experiences of working within the field of law were also shared. It was a valuable learning experience for students considering studying law beyond school.
At the Adelaide Gaol, a highly engaging tour guide named Laurie guided us through Adelaide's oldest prison and with its stories sparked our thinking about concepts of justice, punishment and rehabilitation. It was an excellent day, extending our in-class learning into the real world.
