Rostrum Voice of Youth SA/NT State Final
Sophia (9ALAM) recently competed at the South Australia / Northern Territory Zone Final for Rostrum Voice of Youth. From a few hundred students who took part this year, Sophia was one of four students selected for the State Final at Old Parliament House. She delivered her prepared speech brilliantly and with just fifteen minutes, constructed a short-notice speech of the highest calibre. Sophia represented Concordia with distinction and was an outstanding ambassador for our community. Sophia will also be competing in the State Final of the Junior Legacy Public Speaking Award in mid-August.
Junior and Senior Academy Learning Conferences
We are looking forward to hosting the Junior and Senior Academy Learning conferences in Week 5 of this term. The Junior Thinkers Conference (Years 7–9) will be on Tuesday 19 August and the Senior conference (Years 10–12) will be on Wednesday 20 August. This is the 12th year that Concordia has hosted these important events on the Adelaide gifted education calendar. They provide our highly able students with exposure to a wide range of topics aimed at stimulating thought beyond the constraints of the curriculum. The content is fast-paced, and students will benefit from university lecture style learning. The day will be facilitated by Julie Arliss—a well-known international educator of gifted students. She is on the examining team for Cambridge International Examinations and is a Farmington Scholar from Oxford University. There will be a cost of $40 to attend the conference, which must be paid via the school website online payments page.
CARE@CC (Community of Advocates for Respect and Empathy)
We were thrilled to welcome back Victoria, a Concordia graduate from the Class of 2024, who has just begun her journey studying Medicine at the University of Adelaide. Victoria’s talk was inspiring and practical—she shared personal insights and helpful tips on how students can make the most of their high school years, especially those with dreams of pursuing a career in medicine.
If you work or study in a health-related field and would be open to sharing your story, we’d love to hear from you! Whether you're a seasoned professional or just starting out, your perspective could make a real difference to our students as they explore future health-related career pathways. Please contact Emma Rieger to register your interest—your experience could be exactly what sparks someone’s passion.
Brain Bee State Final
We wish our nine Year 10 students the very best as they compete in the State Final of the Brain Bee Challenge at the University of Adelaide’s Health and Medical Sciences building on Friday 1 August. Our incredible students have answered over 20,000 questions about the brain to prepare for this competition.
