Food Tasting in Language Classes

During the last week of Term 2, language students had the opportunity to sample a variety of traditional Chinese and German foods.

Chinese Incursion: A Cultural Feast

Thanks to the generous support of Nijumaru Restaurant, the Chinese incursion for Year 8 Chinese and Year 11/12 Background Chinese students was a memorable celebration of flavour, culture and fun.

The incursion began with a delicious sampling of traditional Chinese snacks and ice tea. As students settled into their seats, they were treated to plates of crispy spring rolls, prawn crackers and fried vegetable dumplings. The spring rolls were a crowd favourite—golden and crunchy, filled with a savoury mix that had everyone coming back for seconds. The light and airy prawn crackers added a satisfying crunch, while the dumplings, bursting with flavourful fillings, showcased the richness of Chinese culinary heritage. A refreshing glass of Lemon and Peach flavoured ice tea complemented the tasting experience perfectly.

This cultural food experience created an immersive and engaging atmosphere right inside the classroom, allowing students to connect with Chinese culture in an enjoyable and meaningful way.

German: Guten Appetit!

The focus of Year 8 German in Term 2 was the topic ‘Essen und Trinken’ (Food and Drink). At the end of the topic, students had the chance to sample traditional German fare such as ‘sauere Gurken’ (pickles), Brezeln (pretzels), Wurst (sausage), ‘Knoppers’ (wafer biscuits), and to drink, ‘Spezi’ (a mix of cola and fanta). At the same time, they were able to practise phrases they had been learning, including ordering items of food and drink and expressing opinions about them. The most popular opinion was... lecker! (delicious!)
