Raising Respect

Our Flags Fly High

We are grateful to have recently received a new Australian flag at St Peters Campus, kindly gifted by Catherine Hutchesson, MP for Waite. This generous gesture has been warmly received by our school community.

Each day, our student leaders take great pride in raising the Australian, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islander flags—an important role that reflects respect, responsibility and unity. As part of this leadership opportunity, students are also taught flag etiquette, including the importance of ensuring the flag does not touch the ground.

This is because, in Australian flag protocol (and many cultures around the world), allowing a flag to touch the ground is seen as disrespectful. The flag represents the values, history and identity of a nation or people. Keeping it clean, elevated and handled with care shows honour and pride in what the flag stands for.

With our new Australian flag now flying proudly, we thank Ms Hutchesson for her support and recognition of the meaningful role our students play in upholding these national symbols.
