Last week, our Reception children travelled by bus to the St Peters Campus to join in the exciting celebration of Mud Day. Mud Day is a wonderful opportunity for children to explore, create and play in nature — getting their hands (and often faces!) messy as they dig, splash and build. The day encourages sensory exploration, teamwork and joy in the outdoors, reminding us that sometimes the best learning happens when we are free to get dirty.
This special cross-campus experience allowed our St John's Campus Reception students to collaborate with their peers from St Peters Campus, building new friendships and working together on muddy adventures. Children dug rivers, made mud pies and engineered miniature dams, learning from one another’s ideas and problem solving together. They were also fascinated by the St Peters Campus's school chickens, spending time feeding them handfuls of fresh grass and delighting in watching the hens scratch and peck. These shared experiences not only fostered social skills but also deepened their sense of belonging within our wider Concordia community.
As part of God’s world, Mud Day was also a reminder of the awe and wonder we can find in His creation. From the texture of the mud to the patterns of water flowing through tiny channels, and the gentle clucking of the chickens, the children were immersed in the beauty of nature—a gift from God that inspires curiosity, joy and gratitude.
