On Tuesday, all Year 3 students at St John's Campus, along with students who have a German background and their families, took part in a special lantern festival (“Laternenumzug”). Inspired by the German tradition of “Laterne laufen”, the event celebrated St Martin’s message of kindness and sharing. Families gathered with handmade lanterns, beautifully created by the students during their Art and German lessons. Everyone enjoyed the walk around the oval when the lanterns lit up the night. Students also shared a “Brezel” (pretzel) with their families to symbolise St Martin’s kindness. A warm fruit punch (“Kinderpunsch”) was served while students sang the German song “Laterne, Laterne” and shared the story of St Martin. It was a lovely evening filled with warmth and light on a winter night.
