Year 2s Explore Communication the Old-fashioned Way — Letter Writing!

28 Aug 2025

The Year 2 students at St John's Campus have been putting their persuasive skills into practise. Persuasive writing is an important part of developing early literacy and communication skills. Through our Writer’s Workshops we have encouraged the children to express their thoughts and ideas clearly, using simple reasons to support their opinions.

They are learning to structure their writing with an introduction, supporting reasons and a conclusion. Our learning intention is to help the children build confidence in their own ideas while also understanding how to persuade others.

Persuasive writing at this level often includes fun, relatable topics. We all wrote persuasive letters to our parents and sent them off in the post to hopefully persuade our parents to agree with our ideas… a new pet, a holiday and a trip to the Show were a few of their ideas! Now we are patiently awaiting their written responses.
