Last Thursday, a selection of students from Year 4 students at St John’s Campus and St Peters Campus and from Years 7–11 attended the “Once Upon a Festival”. They enjoyed inspiring talks and workshops with authors and illustrators from across Australia—sparking new reading interests and creative writing ideas.
Some thoughts from the students:
“This event has taught me how to captivate my audience and to keep them on the edge of their seats the entire book. Next year I would love to take part in this event again. I loved the talks and how they sold books too. I would recommend this to others with a passion for writing.” – Imogen (7VPER)
“The Once Upon a Festival was a great experience. I have learnt how to write using different tools and techniques. I have also expended my genre of reading. Truly a Once in a Lifetime Experience.” – Rebecca (10VNAR)
“Writing isn’t about chasing publications or fame—it's about finding your voice.” – Will Kostakis (Author)
“The Once Upon a Festival was amazing, I bought a bunch of books for $1 each! I found the author Jack Heath, awesome, funny and intriguing at the same time. The workshop helped me understand how authors work and write.” – Cameron (9NSHR)
“It was an insightful experience that was intriguing ... Apart from fun with friends, I felt inspired to start writing again for the first time in a while—I'm truly grateful.” – Sancho (8MCAS)
