Congratulations to the Stage 1 Drama class, who participated in the State Theatre Company's Young Theatremakers Award, hosted by Flinders University. With workshops from Flinders University practitioners, they reprised a section of their performance of The Mermaid for this event, grappling with a smaller number of actors, a large theatre space and the logistics of shifting a production to a new venue.
On the day, the group was first treated to an inside look at the workings of the Drama Centre, Australia's first tertiary Drama school. Students then presented their work alongside six other schools, all inspired by the key word 'elevation'. Our students performed admirably, with an emotive, polished performance that transported the enthusiastic audience to an underwater world. Year 10 Concordia students also attended, and immediately asked 'will we be able to do this next year?'
The judging panel reviewed the show as "a small ensemble that produced a big impact; both inventive and emotionally charged [...] creating a powerful and polished piece that reflected careful rehearsal and strong artistic intent." Congratulations to the Year 11s on their performance. We look forward to the 2026 competition with the current Year 10s!
