Year 7 Sports Report

District Selection and Statewide Carnivals

Over the past few weeks, our Year 7s have been busy with Adelaide South East swimming carnivals and trials for District softball teams, in preparation for statewide carnivals.

We would like to congratulate the following students on their selection in the following teams:

  • ASE District Softball - Emily 7SPAC and Olivia 7SMAR
  • ASE District Swimming - Lily 7LAUSOliver 7JHEA and Archie 7SPAC

The State Swimming Carnival was held in Week 9 and all three of our Year 7 swimmers were awarded medals, which is a fantastic achievement.

  • Archie 7SPAC: Silver in 50m Butterfly and Bronze in 50m backstroke
  • Lily 7LAUS: Bronze in 50m backstroke
  • Oliver 7JHEA: Bronze in 50m breaststroke

Knockout Cricket

The boys' knockout cricket team has also played their first and second round matches on Monday, 29 March. Unfortunately the result didn't go our way in Round 1 against Colonel Light Gardens Primary School; however, we defeated Linden Park in a 15-over match in Round 2. Thank you to the dedicated coaches for their time and effort with the team.

Pedal Prix Round 1

Pedal Prix returned to racing once again Saturday 27 April after a year off, with our school team attending the McNamara Park Track in Mount Gambier for the very first time. Small teams competed against a field of 85 trikes from South Australia and Victoria in an eight-hour endurance race. The Old Concordians' Association also had two trikes compete in this race for the first time, seeing many past students continue to be involved in this ever-growing sport.

The technical course saw some early spills on the final corner of the track, but limited damage and no repairs were required to keep the trikes circulating for the entire day. Wet and windy conditions early in the day made the track slippery, but riders navigated this with ease, improving on lap times in ever-changing conditions. New COVID-19 regulations including trike cleaning between riders was quickly adapted to by our teams, seeing faster rider changeover times and improved teamwork throughout the day. Our teams continued to rival for podium positions, including Veloci running second at the halfway point of the race. Team Concorde continued to challenge for third position and our youngest team, Matrix, including multiple new riders, continued to challenge for a top five position. At the end of the race, Veloci finished in podium third position in the Senior School category and Team Concorde just missed out with a 4th position in the Middle School category.

Congratulations to all the riders who represented the school outstandingly over the weekend. Thank you also to the team of parents who assisted in various roles over the weekend. We look forward to competing in our next eight-hour race at Tailem Bend Raceway on Sunday 23 May.
