Recently, the Receptions visited the Fern Avenue Community Garden to explore the summer harvests. The visit was part of our learning about ‘How the World Works’ and our inquiry centred around the statement that "Natural cycles influence the activity of living things."
Further visits to the Garden are planned in Autumn, Winter and Spring where we will compare and explore the differences between the seasons.

Next Friday night (16 March), we will be welcoming visitors from the Siassi Islands in Papua New Guinea. This is part of our ongoing partnership with the schools of Siassi.
At this stage we have three confirmed visitors travelling to Adelaide for this trip.
Our visitors include Mr Solomon Nalong who is the Principal of Mabey Primary School on Siassi. He is also the Team Leader of the Siassi Islands partnership team. Some of you will already know Solomon as he previously visited Adelaide in 2014. Solomon will be joined by Mr Daniel Moro who also visited us in 2016 and Mrs Leah Yahweh.
We look forward to greeting Solomon, Daniel and Leah for this special time in our community.
Early Entrance Assessment
As a part of our annual assessment of students' progress within the areas of Literacy and Numeracy, we conduct PAT test in Years 1 to 6 at the beginning of each year. These tests provide us with helpful information to guide us as we seek to support students with their learning. In Reception we also complete a series of different tests that are specifically designed for this age group of students. Similarly, the information from these tests will be used to guide our teaching and also to allocate support for our Reception students.
Principal - St John's Campus
The new ELC garden and redesigned street frontage was officially opened in a ceremony with invited guests and children.
The children were highly engaged listening to a Welcome to Country by Aboriginal Elder Uncle Michael O’Brien. Past Principal and current ELC grandparent, Bruce Williams, reminisced about the changes to the site of the Early Learning Centre since its inception in 2007. He acknowledged how much his grandson loves coming to the ELC and learning in the new outdoor environment. Mr Williams cut the ribbon which was held by Concordia Campus School Leaders and ELC children.
Pastor Andrew Brook blessed the new garden and the children sang a song about planting seeds.
We thanked the architects involved in the project - Oxigen and Russell & Yelland, and the builders - Adelaide Innovative Landscapes. We also expressed our thanks to the parents and children of the ELC for their patience and enthusiasm while the project was under development.
Invited guests included Minister for Unley - David Pisoni, Acting Mayor for Unley - Peter Hughes, Executive Director of Lutheran Education SA NT & WA - John Proeve and Chair of the College Board - Sylvia Andersons.
After the conclusion of the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to interact with the children as they played in the garden.
On Thursday 22 February, the Year 4 classes visited the ABC studios in Collinswood. We were lucky enough to meet the team from BTN and asked lots of questions about their jobs as reporters, including what technology and digital media they used as part of their jobs. We also got to see the BTN studio and have a go at reading off of a teleprompter. We got to meet David Bevan in the radio studio and saw how radio works, behind the scenes, including the “dump” button! Highlights included the News Control Room and the Auditorium where we tested out the amazing acoustics.
On Friday 23 March the staff and students of St John’s Campus will be participating in the 2018 Siassi Walkathon at the school. The Walkathon will begin at 9.30am but will be preceded by a short Chapel in the Hall at 9.00am.
All students will be part of this special event including our ELC students who will open our Walkathon by walking the first lap.
We are also encouraging students to wear something that is black, red or yellow on the day to represent the official colours on the PNG flag. Alternatively, students may choose to wear their sport uniform instead.
The money raised through this Walkathon will support the St John’s Campus partnership with the schools on Siassi Island in Papua New Guinea.
Please download your child’s sponsorship form and start collecting money now. Once you have collected your sponsorship donations, please bring your money into School between Monday 19 March and Friday 6 April. We will be tallying the money raised during this time so you can see how much money we raise. This tally will be displayed in the JP Hall, main Hall and the Red Shed.
Thank you for your continued support of this exciting and enriching event.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

Prior to releasing a College Family Directory or class lists, the College will request your consent to place your details in these documents and to use your child’s photo in school publications. An online form will be sent to you soon with this request for consent and it is anticipated that the Directory will be available by the end of this term.Back to top
There seems to be an increasing number of families bringing their dogs onto the College grounds at the beginning and end of the school day. Please be advised that, if this is necessary, the dog must always be on a lead and the lead needs to be held by an adult. Please do not let students walk the dog at school. There are some students that feel uncertain around dogs and the very nature of dogs means that they may not react in a positive way if startled. For the safety of all, the adult must be the one holding the lead. We also ask for you to not bring the dogs to school at drop off or pickup times.Back to top
