End of Term
With Term 2 (Semester 1) fast drawing to a close it is appropriate that we acknowledge and thank everyone who has contributed to what has been a fast moving but very successful term. There are so many people that contribute in so many significant ways to the wellbeing of our community: parents/caregivers; students; staff and other friends of the St John’s Campus. Thank you!
Some Specific Thank you messages…
I would like to thank a few teachers who have been serving in temporary roles over this past term and semester.
Mrs Alicia Puiatti has assumed the role of Acting PYP Coordinator (responsible for teaching and learning here at the St John’s campus) over this past semester while we await the arrival of Ms Rachel Muldoon, who will take up this permanent role next semester. Alicia has done an amazing job in this role and has ensured that our teaching/learning programs and associated initiatives continue to operate smoothly. Alicia will return to classroom teaching next term working alongside Ms Jasmin Dinno in Year 2.
Mrs Kylie Johns has been teaching music to a number of our Junior Primary classes during Semester One. Next term Mrs Jasmin Dinno will return to this role (along with teaching part time in Year 2). We thank both Kylie and Jasmin for their contributions during Semester 1.
Mrs Meredith Phillips has been teaching art across the school during this past term, while Mrs Nancy Wells has been on Long Service Leave. We thank Meredith for her valuable service to our campus during this term.
We pray for a safe and refreshing three week holiday break in July and look forward to a positive start to Term 3 on Tuesday 24 July.

Next Wednesday 27 June, Semester 1 Report Cards will be accessible via ManageBac. There will be final information coming out to families next week providing additional clarification about this including detailed instructions on how to download and access the Report Card once you are logged into ManageBac.
If you are yet to sign up to ManageBac please contact Alicia Puiatti, Acting PYP Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org. It is imperative that you have a ManageBac account as without it you will be unable to access your child’s Report Card. We thank you for your patience and support as we work through this process for the first time at St John’s Campus.Back to top
Please be aware that on Friday 29 June Concordia Campus finishes at 12.30pm and as a result School Buses will depart from Cheltenham Street at 1.10pm and from Duthy Street at 1.15pm. Please contact the School Office if you need to amend any permanent bus arrangements on that day or you wish to add your child to the bus register. A bus bell will ring at the St John’s Campus to remind bus students of the early departure and a bus duty teacher will accompany them to the bus as per the usual procedure.Back to top
The Reception students have recently been exploring many relics and artefacts about the past. They have been having a great time wondering exactly how you can use a phone that is always plugged into the wall and how people could survive having to walk out to the back yard to go to the toilet in the winter!!
We invited Allen from the Australian Museum of Childhood to visit the children with a great variety of amazing toys from the past and had a fun time putting these to good use.

On Thursday 7 June, the Year 4 classes enjoyed an excursion investigating how structures and buildings meet the needs of the community. We visited and learned through tours of the Adelaide Convention Centre, South Australia’s Government House and nearby war memorials.
Some comments collected from students are:
“It was very exciting going to Government House and sitting where the Queen sits.”
“Government House has amazing chandeliers!”
“In Government House the air conditioning is disguising in wooden cabinets.”
“It worth a long walk to see the memorials and remember those who died in the wars.”
“I learned the Convention Centre can split its rooms up and more than three thousand people can fit in at one time.”
“The memorials are interesting because they couldn’t bring the ones who died back to Australia so it is like their grave.”
Elizabeth Reu and Jessie Thiele
Year 4 Teachers
On Friday 15 June, the Year 6 classes ventured into the city to explore key locations related to our current inquiry into How We Organise Ourselves. In this unit students are investigating how systems support and maintain justice. The first location was the Parliament House of South Australia, where students toured the House of Assembly and the Legislative Council Chambers, led by David Pisoni MP. The second location was an exhibition at the Centre for Democracy, which focussed on the history of Australia’s democratic government system. Finally, students visited the Old Adelaide Gaol, where they were informed of the prison system which operated in South Australia 1841 to 1988. What an insightful day of ‘real-world’ learning!

Have you supported our 2018 Annual Appeal?
Sincere thanks to parents, old collegians and generous Concordia Community members who have already supported the 2018 Annual Appeal with a tax-deductible donation.
Through past donations, St John’s Campus has been able to provide new and upgraded equipment for our students, and with your help the 2018 Annual Appeal will again provide much needed support for our campus.
A special project for support at the St John’s Campus is upgrading the Resource Centre to provide versatile learning spaces and an interactive environment to allow more collaboration between students, teachers, and the community.
