Term 3 will conclude tomorrow and I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone associated with our St John’s Campus for your contribution, support and encouragement over the past ten weeks.
We have enjoyed a very productive and positive term.
I trust that you all enjoy a safe and refreshing school holiday period and look forward to seeing you again at the commencement of Term 4 on Monday, 15 October.
As announced in our last Concordia CONNECT, Mrs Rachelle Fairlie will be completing her time with us at the end of this term. We want to acknowledge Rachelle’s significant service to our St John’s Campus over the past six years as the Community Carer. Rachelle has achieved a great deal during her time with us and we wish her God’s blessing in her future plans and endeavors.
At Chapel tomorrow we will formally farewell Rachelle.
We are currently in the process of making some interim care and counselling arrangements for next term until we find a permanent replacement for Rachelle.
Nature Play Development
The exciting new development of our Highgate Street frontage between the Office and the playground was originally planned to commence several weeks ago. Unfortunately, for a number of reasons, it was delayed. We now anticipate (and hope) that this work will be completed in the upcoming holidays in readiness for Term 4. We look forward to accessing this new space next term and thank our St John’s Campus P&F for the funds that they have donated to the school to be used for this new development.
Next term we have a number of teachers taking LSL (Long Service Leave). Please note the following:
- Mrs Cosh (Reception C) will be away for Weeks 1 & 2 with Mrs Prenzler replacing her.
- Ms Dinno (2DP & JP Music) will be away for Weeks 1 & 2 with Mrs Puiatti and Mrs Johns replacing her.
- Mrs Gehling (Resource Centre) will be away for Weeks 1 & 2.
We wish all of these teachers a refreshing and safe break and look forward to seeing them again in Week 3.
Class Allocation 2019
Please refer to the School Star message sent out to all parents last week if you have any relevant information that you wish to communicate with us relating to 2019 class allocations.
2018 NAPLAN Results
Please note that we have recently received the 2018 NAPLAN results for students in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9 from ACARA. These results are normally received in schools much earlier than this, but due to some delays ACARA’s distribution has been later this year.
We will be distributing these results for parents to view tomorrow.
NAPLAN results provide us with helpful information about student achievement levels that we use in conjunction with a range of other assessment data to help us determine student progress and more importantly how we can best support students in their learning going forward.
Please feel free to contact your class teacher should you wish to discuss these results further.

As part of our inquiry into ‘Sharing the Planet’, the Year 3 classes walked to Ridge Park to investigate how the park is used by the community and in what ways we can learn about taking responsibility for the facilities that we have available in our local area. They spent time exploring and playing before choosing an item to sketch on their art pad. Students then created a Keynote presentation when they got back to school. We were blessed with beautiful weather and are now getting ready for our next adventure.

Year 3 Teachers
The Junior Primary students had the pleasure of performing a range of items at Assembly on Monday, 24 September. The R-2 Choir sang 2 of their favourite songs - 'Do, Re, Mi' from The Sound of Music and 'A Million Dreams' from The Greatest Showman. Following this, the Receptions performed on drums and glockenspiels. Year 1 dance videos were played throughout the Assembly and the Year 2s concluded by playing three tunes on the Recorders. Well done to all the students for their participation and enthusiasm!
R-2 Music & Year 2 Teacher
Recently, Julie Krause came to speak at Concordia College, St John’s Campus, about the work of the Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS). So touched by the inspiring stories of hope and love toward those less fortunate than ourselves were two unassuming Reception children who together spoke at length about “doing something to help”.
From these early lunchtime (and sometimes class time) chats, they decided to organise a Book Swap. The idea was that Reception families could donate pre-loved books to a central place and other families could purchase these for 50 cents per book.
Yesterday, Oliver RC and Scarlett RC proudly presented $16 raised from the book swap to Julie Krause from the ALWS. Julie said, “Our future is bright when we see such positive service and stewardship shown by two of our youngest students in the school.” She said that the money will be used to support the programs of the ALWS.

All sessions will be facilitated in a manner that is sensitive and age appropriate.

Starts at 6.40pm and concludes at 7.30pm
Session 2: ‘What’s Happening To Us’ (suitable for Year 5 to 7 students)
Starts at 7.40pm and concludes at 8.30pm
Parents and students sit together at these sessions as some time is allocated for family discussions.
