Waverley International Schools Netball Championships

Two Concordia College teams travelled to Melbourne in week one of the mid-year break, competing at the Waverley International Schools Netball Championships.

Over four days, the teams played 14 games of netball against teams from Victoria, New South Wales, New Zealand, Kuala Lumpur, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The diversity of playing styles is one of the great experiences our teams encountered.

In the minor round draw the seniors finished second and the juniors finished third in their pools, which placed both teams in the top 16 teams in their divisions.

During the finals the games were highly competitive and the girls were impressive, with their teamwork and cohesion challenging the top teams. The junior team defeated Kuala Lumpur but lost to Rowville. The seniors defeated Rowville and in a hard-fought final lost to Scotch College by two goals.

Both teams must be commended for finishing in the top 12 with final seeding positions:

  • Seniors 10th
  • Juniors 10th

The trip away is a wonderful experience for the different year levels to interact and appreciate one another's skills on court and to develop strong relationships off court. The support the teams gave each other created a supportive and positive atmosphere for all.

Shopping, bowling, laser tag, mini golf and some competitive karaoke added to the fun of the trip.

Congratulations to all players and coaches for a successful week away!

Footy on the Big Stage

On Saturday 27 July, our Year 6/7 boys football team was invited to play at half time against Seaton Primary during the Port Power and Greater Western Sydney Giants game at Adelaide Oval. A few weeks earlier on Saturday 6 July, our Year 5/6 girls football team played against Henley Beach during the Showdown. We feel very blessed to be given multiple opportunities to play on the big stage.

Pedal Prix Six-hour Race (Round 3)

On Sunday, 28 July the College competed in the third six-hour Pedal Prix race of the season at Victoria Park. Fifty students from Years 7 – 12 competed in four trikes against 172 other school teams from around Australia. The dry weather provided fast race conditions as each team battled it out on the track for position. All teams rotated through each of their riders, showing good improvement in lap times and changeover organisation. Clean racing from all trikes resulted in maximum time on the track, with the school achieving three top-10 positions. The highlight for the day was team Concorde, finishing third in their category, after mechanical issues faced in previous races prevented them from reaching this milestone earlier in the season. Our Senior team 'Harmony' finished 4th while our other two younger teams improved upon previous race positions.

A big thank you to all of the staff and parents who volunteered in a range of roles in the lead up to the event and during the day. The team now prepares for the final 24-hour race at Murray Bridge later this term in Week 9.

Team Category Category Position Overall Laps
Harmony 3 4th/39 6th 174
Concorde 2 3rd/65 7th 173
Matrix 2 9th/65 21st 157
Shockwave 2 26th/65 62nd 132

Sapsasa Basketball

Well done to the Concordia teams that competed in the recent Sapsasa basketball round robin. The Year 7 boys went through undefeated which qualifies them for State Day on 18 September. The Year 7 girls finished the day on a positive with two strong wins.

Our Year 6 basketball team of 10 passionate players won four out of six games. The boys showed great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day and should be congratulated on their performance. Thank you to Ben Peasgood for coaching this team.

Congratulations to all players and coaches on a fantastic day and we wish the Year 7 boys every success at State Day in September.
