Over three days last week, eight ensembles from Concordia participated in the Australian Band and Orchestra Directors' Association (ABODA) Festival held at Westminster College. This festival not only offers primary and secondary school bands the opportunity to perform a program they’ve been working hard to perfect over several months, but each group also receives feedback from expert adjudicators which can be used to assist in future performances.
This year, Concordia ensembles again played with excellent musicality and a high degree of confidence, achieving some outstanding results.
Congratulations to all the students and ensemble directors who worked so hard to prepare such great music.
The 2018 results are as follows:
String Ensemble | Gold and Overall winner, Advanced Strings section |
Chamber Strings | Silver Award, Intermediate Strings section |
Big Band 1 | Gold and Overall winner, Advanced Stage Band section |
Big Band 2 | Silver Award, Intermediate Stage Band section |
Big Band 3 | Gold Award, Beginner Stage Band section |
Concert Band | Bronze Award, Advanced Concert Band section |

Congratulations, Ethan 10NMC!
Travelling to Melbourne over the weekend, Ethan (Year 10) was one of three drummers from across Australia to be invited to compete in the Under 16 category at the Australian Ultimate Drummer Competition. It’s with great pleasure we share the news that Ethan won! This is an outstanding achievement, and places him in rare company. Well done, Ethan.
Back to topOn Thursday, 16 August, visitors who attended the Concordia Campus Principal’s Tour were entertained by the Flute Quartet. Georgia 12TMC, Heather 12RSO, Bailey 10RDE and Alex 10JWE performed beautifully for our guests, demonstrating one of the many ensembles available to students at the school. Thank you to their director, Lydia Sharrad, for assisting them on the day and preparing them for the performance. Music ensembles are a very important extra-curricular activity at Concordia, and it is a wonderful chance for families who are considering the school or the future, to see some of the music opportunities that are available.
