Middle A Boys Knockout Basketball

The Middle A Boys Basketball team followed up their recent premiership in the regular Saturday morning SAAS competition with a strong performance to progress into the second round of the statewide Year 8/9 knockout competition. They will play a second round match against Nazareth away, probably in Week 2 of Term 3 and, if they win that, go to the State Finals played in a round-robin involving five other teams on 13 November.

First round results: Concordia defeated Unley High School: 62 - 38 and Concordia 64 defeated Glenunga International High School: 64 - 49.

Boys Sport Winter Break-up

As with the last couple of decades, the last weekend of the boys’ winter season of sport was given over to the now traditional 'Boys Winter Sport Break-up'. Boys who have played in our Saturday soccer and basketball teams had the opportunity to play in fun scratch matches or, in the case of our Senior A teams, a game against Old Concordians who take the opportunity to relive the ‘glory days’ of their school involvements!

Bacon and egg sandwiches, sausages and various cold drinks/hot beverages were available and very popular, helping raise around $500 for the ‘Football Outreach Vanuatu’ program.

We don’t worry too much about scores in the break-up matches but, for the record, the Senior A soccer boys snuck past the Old Concordians in a penalty shootout after regular match time had them tied at three all. Meanwhile, the Senior A basketball players found there was plenty of life in the “old boys” when, after a spirited comeback that pushed the match to overtime, the Old Concordians prevailed by 15 in overtime.

Thank you to all who attended, especially the Old Concordians who are so important to this event, and congratulations to all the boys who played for Concordia this season in all our winter sports!
