3rd Dose Human Papillomavirus (HPV) - Year 8 Students
Eastern Health Authority (EHA) www.eha.sa.gov.au will soon be visiting the College to complete the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) immunisations for Year 8 students where consent has been provided.
If you did not receive an immunisation consent form from your child, please ask at the school office for one. If unavailable, contact EHA on 8132 3600.
If any information you gave on the original consent form has changed, please inform EHA’s immunisation staff before the date of vaccination on 8132 3600.
Please notify us if:
- Your child has already completed the HPV program with another provider.
- You wish to withdraw your consent.
- Your child’s medical condition has changed.
It is your responsibility to advise EHA on the day of immunisation of any change in the information on the consent form, in particular, your child’s medical condition. A signed and dated note presented to the Registered Nurse on the day of immunisation, from a parent or guardian in your child’s diary is acceptable.
Note: Students may wear PE uniform on the day.
On Friday 8 September, our Year 7 students welcomed their 'grand friends' to the College for the morning and shared some insights into what it is like to be a student at Concordia College. Our guests were treated to a range of presentations including speeches from Mr Saegenschnitter and Year 12 Student Leaders Harrison Warrick and Georgina Leske. They also enjoyed musical performances from our Year 7 Special Interest Music Group, as well hearing readings of children's books written by Year 7 authors Mia 7KWA and Samson 7KWA. The Year 7 students also guided their guests on a special tour around the Concordia Campus to share about their experiences in a range of their classes. The students and their 'grand friends' took part in a geography quiz where the general knowledge of the guests was certainly appreciated by their hosts as they answered some tricky questions. We all had a wonderful time and certainly appreciated having these special people in the lives of our Year 7 students visit the College.

Last week, our Year 8 Science lesson was a 'heart breaker'. Students were able to apply what they had learnt about the anatomy of the heart to the dissection of a sheep’s heart. Some helpful resources supported students to learn the names and functions of the various components of this wondrous organ that keeps us alive. One of these resources is an augmented reality app called Anatomy 4D. It allows students to focus an iPad camera on a worksheet which activates a simulation and causes an animated beating heart to appear on the screen as if floating above the paper. Students can then remove or add layers to the animated simulation to better understand how the heart functions.

ARE YOU OKAY?
R U OK Day is an annual national event that aims to encourage open and honest conversations about how people are travelling with their mental health. To mark this important occasion, Middle School Counsellor Bek Brown spoke to our Year 8 cohort about the importance of looking out for and checking-in on your friends, to start a discussion that could save a life. To reflect on this discussion, the cohort contributed to a mural in Murtoa with the theme of ‘other ways to ask if you are okay’. There were some incredibly sensitive and insightful responses from our cohort and the students appreciated the opportunity to reflect on the importance of community.

As part of annual Book Week celebrations, it has become tradition that our Year 8 students write to persons they admire, sharing insights on their own reading preferences and asking questions of their heroes. Hand-written letters were sent far and wide and the amazing responses have begun to trickle back; Rory Sloane, the Irwin family, Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal Football Club and even…Sir David Attenborough! We are looking forward to seeing whose letter arrives next in our mailbox!
