Year 8s host Year 1s for Science in the Nautilus Centre

Our Year 8 students hosted the Year 1 students from St John’s Campus for an interactive Science lesson in the newly opened Nautilus Centre on Monday 30 October. The Year 1s have been investigating how plants sustain life on earth and looking at the vital role they play in our lives. It was great to see the Year 8s sharing their knowledge with the Year 1s, showing them how to utilise the microscopes to take a closer look some plant specimens they had collected. A great learning experience for all involved and yet another example of cross-campus collaboration.

City Planning in Year 8 Humanities

On Wednesday 1 November, the Year 8 Humanities classes had the opportunity to listening to guest speaker Michael Davis from AECOM as part of their town planning unit. Michael presented information on demographics and how they are used to assist city planners in planning cities and towns. He talked about changing populations and what that means for cities in the future and how they will cope with the changing demographics of their citizens. His visit was very informative and greatly appreciated by all.

Year 8s visit the Beachouse

What would be every thirteen-year-old’s dream? An unlimited supply of ice-cream? No homework for a year? How about an afternoon at the iconic Glenelg Beachouse for free?

Well, for the Year 8 students of 2017, the last wish came true! Our cohort were given the unbelievable experience of spending two hours at the Beachouse on Friday 27 October. Water slides, bumper boats, mini-golf and arcade games were all part of the fun; some students even tried to recapture their childhood by riding the carousel! As you can see by the beaming faces, our Year 8s had a fantastic afternoon of fun and friendship!

The Year 8 team wish to thank the Beachhouse management for allowing our students to visit; an incredibly generous (and humbling) gift!
