Concordia’s enthusiastic young scientists put their problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and creativity to the test when entering a wide range of projects into the statewide Oliphant Science Awards competition in 2025, achieving some excellent results.
With 4,099 students across the state entering 3,143 projects, the competition was strong, offering an opportunity for students to shine outside of the classroom while exploring ways in which science connects with the real world. Through asking big questions, testing ideas, experimenting, observing and documenting their discoveries, students tackled topics of interest, engaging with science meaningfully and imaginatively.
When the prizes were announced, we were excited to learn that Concordia students received four first places, two second places and three third places for projects across several categories: multimedia; photography; programming, apps and robotics; scientific inquiry; posters; models and inventions; and science writing. In addition, five Concordia entries were Highly Commended by the judges, and Year 3 student Jayden achieved second place in the sought-after Department for Education Young Scientist Award R–4. Congratulations to all students who pursued their passion for scientific exploration and inquiry through this year’s Oliphant Science Award.
