United Nations Youth Evatt Competition

17 Aug 2023

Concordia congratulates Juliana (12JLEY), Alicia (12KNIC), Lily (11RSOM) and Tahlia (12JLEY), who competed in the South Australian UN Youth Evatt Competition - Australia’s premier debating and diplomacy competition. Aimed at students from Years 9 to 12, the program educates young people about Australia’s place in the world, teaching such skills as negotiation, teamwork, public speaking, research and diplomacy. Students are invited to take part in a mock session of the UN Security Council. Teams of two students debate, amend and vote on resolutions from the perspective of the country they are assigned. Teams are allocated one of the fifteen countries that are members of the United Nations Security Council in 2023. The students are judged, and the most effective diplomats proceed to the next round.

A huge congratulations to Lily and Tahlia who reached the State Final of the competition – placing 4th and receiving Honourable Mentions from the judges. What an incredible achievement! Lily is an ambassador for UN Youth. If this is something that may be of interest to you, please speak with her to learn more, or chat with Mrs Rieger. UN Youth activities run across the whole year.
