Here we go again! It seems like we only just said goodbye to 'CHICAGO: High School Edition' and we are already looking ahead to the 2025 Concordia musical.
Week 6 saw a gradual reveal of our chosen show for next year, starting with 16 possibilities reflected in Playbill posters stuck to the doors of the Drama Centre. Each recess time, students gathered nervously and excitedly to see three posters removed until the final four shows remained. At Assembly on the Friday, only 'Mary Poppins', 'Pippin', 'Mamma Mia!' and 'Wicked' still stood. One by one, they were eliminated until 'Mamma Mia!' was revealed as our musical for next year!
The announcement of the 2025 musical may seem extremely early; however, it allows for the creative team to begin working on the show from next term. The Drama and Music departments are already choosing audition pieces and compiling information ready to be distributed to students as we are looking to run auditions early in Term 3 and begin blocking scenes by the middle of the term. This gives us three terms to produce the best show that we can with performances scheduled at Futures Church at the end of Term 1 next year.
'Mamma Mia!' was a popular choice with students, staff and families alike declaring early on that they were #TeamMammaMia. The musical reveal week was such fun and brought a great spirit of excitement to the beginning of our next musical cycle. We especially enjoyed following the guesses and banter on our social posts and it was also affirming to see the support of the community in our choice.
We are excited to bring the songs of ABBA to life in this crowd-pleasing show and look forward to seeing all the Dancing Queens in the audience when we open in April next year.
